Syncovate's North Star

Last month, as we tackled how Sustainability is quickly becoming an integral part of business growth and planning, we talked with Tyler Kanczuzewski about our business planning and strategies. The idea of a guiding set of principles by which to lead your business came to the forefront in that conversation. As we continue this conversation, I’d like to share with you the guiding principles at Syncovate. Let’s begin with our North Star.

The North Star of Syncovate, LLC is :

  1. Evidence-Backed Research—our foundational value.

This North Star falls in line with the enduring lessons of consulting psychology. As a business psychologist my goal is to apply my years of psychological expertise and experience to help individuals, families, teams, and workplaces operate more effectively.

This is also the theme of the upcoming 2024 Annual APA division conference for Consulting Psychology. We provide unique value to our clients, based on our education, experience, and skills that combine work with human relationships, evaluating systems, and facilitating meaningful change. I will share more this month about our upcoming conference, what I’m speaking about, and how you can benefit from this work as well.

All of our other core values flow from the inspiration of this North Star value. Let’s break them down one by one.

  2. Maintain a Creative Learning Mindset. When we work on developing a body of research we learn first-hand that failure is part of the learning process. If we get too wrapped up in failure and fear, it stunts our ability to learn. We have to be willing to experiment to learn, and to start over if necessary.

The concept of “Small Bets” helps us to build success by stacking small wins—leading us to a natural flow towards success. This approach can be applied to our work. We’ll talk about this throughout the month, so keep following me on social media (Facebook and LinkedIn) for more on this!

  3. We believe in a “rainbow prism” worldview. What does this mean? Simply: Respecting others. Each of us have different worldviews and core beliefs. I feel very comfortable working with people whose worldviews and beliefs have been developed with a different perspective than my own.  We practice intentional inclusivity, and our purpose is supporting people and developing culture. At Syncovate, it’s important that you know we believe that inclusivity is all about believing that people are miracles, all people have value. Our value is not connected to our performance at work, or the gym, or in our other pursuits—our value is inherent as the living incarnation of the miracle of life.

Our roots go deep, like a tree, and they anchor us to what’s important. But we must also continuously grow and change in order to be healthy organizations! Our beliefs are the same, they can be rooted and deep, and they are also something we can build upon and update as we learn and grow.

  4. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. This value has been one of the hardest won for me personally—of all the principles this business lives by, this value has come from my own personal growth as a business leader, a business owner, and as a person.
It took me a long time to embrace the characteristics in my personality that often make me feel “too big” for the room or for my role. I am tall. I move my arms and hands when I talk. I take up space! I love to laugh, and be loud and goofy and silly. I love to joke and have fun with my clients. I like to cheer and clap and be boisterous. There have been times in the past when I was embarrassed about my loud and outgoing self!

But when I embrace myself and these characteristics, I am able to be your most enthusiastic supporter! So get ready for me to cheer you on, to energize you in your efforts, and to clap and be proud of your successes as we work together!

Would you like to work on your North Star values as a brand, a company mission, or for your self as a business leader? I am excited to help you through this challenging, fun, exciting process! Let’s work together!
